Surfaces with high albedo reflect a significant portion of incoming solar radiation back into space. Fresh snow is highly reflective due to its crystalline structure and air pockets, resulting in a very high albedo. Deserts, while bright, absorb more heat. Paddy fields, with water and vegetation, have low albedo, and prairie lands also absorb considerable solar energy.
