Micro-irrigation systems deliver water and nutrients directly to the root zone, minimizing evaporation and runoff, thus reducing fertilizer loss. By applying water more efficiently and reducing deep percolation, these methods help to conserve groundwater and can prevent or slow down the decline of water tables in arid and semi-arid regions. While beneficial, it is not the sole method of irrigation for dry land farming, which may also employ other water conservation techniques.
