In-situ conservation refers to the protection of ecosystems and natural habitats, and the maintenance and recovery of viable populations of species in their natural surroundings. Biosphere Reserves, National Parks, and Wildlife Sanctuaries are all established to protect natural habitats and the species within them. Botanical Gardens, however, are ex-situ conservation methods, involving the collection, cultivation, and preservation of plant species in controlled environments outside their natural habitats.
