An ecosystem is defined by the interaction between living organisms (biotic components) and their physical surroundings (abiotic components). While a community of organisms is part of an ecosystem, it doesn't encompass the environmental aspect. The biosphere refers to the part of Earth inhabited by life, and flora and fauna describe the plant and animal life respectively, but neither fully captures the interconnected system.
