Cirrus cloud thinning aims to reduce the warming effect of high-altitude cirrus clouds by altering their formation and lifespan. Similarly, injecting sulphate aerosols into the stratosphere mimics the cooling effect observed after large volcanic eruptions, where aerosols reflect solar radiation back into space. Both techniques are proposed as geoengineering methods to counteract the warming caused by increased greenhouse gas concentrations.
