Magnetite (Fe3O4) nanoparticles, particularly ultrafine particles, have been linked to neurodegenerative diseases due to their potential to induce oxidative stress and inflammation in the brain. Major anthropogenic sources of these fine particles include the wear and tear of vehicle brakes and engines, which release them into the atmosphere. Power plants also contribute significantly to airborne particulate matter, including magnetite, through combustion processes. Microwave stoves and telephone lines are not recognized as primary sources of airborne magnetite pollution.
