Green hydrogen, produced using renewable energy, is a key component for decarbonizing hard-to-abate sectors. Its application in steel production via direct reduction offers a significant pathway to reduce emissions. Similarly, fertilizer production, particularly ammonia synthesis, is energy-intensive and can be decarbonized by using green hydrogen as a feedstock. Oil refineries also stand to benefit, as hydrogen is used in various processes like hydrocracking and hydrotreating, which can be made cleaner with green hydrogen.
