The deflection of winds, both towards the right in the Northern Hemisphere and towards the left in the Southern Hemisphere, is a consequence of the Earth's rotation. This phenomenon is known as the Coriolis effect. While temperature and pressure gradients are the primary drivers of air movement (leading to wind), it is the Earth's spin that causes the apparent deflection in wind direction.
