The six orthodox schools of Indian philosophy, known as Astika Darshanas, are generally accepted as Mimamsa, Vedanta, Sankhya, Yoga, Nyaya, and Vaisheshika. Lokayata, also known as Charvaka, is a materialistic school that is generally considered heterodox (Nastika). Kapalika is a tantric sect, which also falls outside the traditional six astika schools.
