Founded by Jyotirao Phule in 1873 in Maharashtra, the Satya Shodhak Samaj (Truth-Seekers' Society) aimed to challenge the caste system and the dominance of Brahmin priests. Its primary objective was to liberate Shudras and Ati-Shudras (lower castes) from exploitation by advocating for education and social equality. The movement's activities were largely confined to Maharashtra and focused on social reform and self-respect for oppressed castes.
