The Janapada Asmaka was located on the banks of the Godavari river. The Kosala Janapada was situated along the Sarayu river. Kamboja was an ancient kingdom often associated with the regions around the Hindukush mountains, and while rivers like the Vipas (Beas) were in proximity to some of these northern Indian regions, the direct primary association for Kamboja is not as strong. Avanti, a prominent Mahajanapada, was located in western Malwa, and the Mahanadi river flows through eastern India, making this association incorrect.
